Winter on the other side of the sound.
A week in the San Juans has a way of stretching out. The stove was usually going before everyone was up, with coffee close behind. Mornings began with a sense of purpose; wood to bring in, something to fix, a trip into town. Days got lost somewhere between the cedars and the shoreline, leaving just enough time for a ride or a few casts before dark. By evening, damp clothes hung by the fire and dinner was underway. We stayed up longer than we meant to.
