Weekly Playlist: Beach Blanket Burnouts

My first memories of music as a child were of Brian Wilson's voice jangling through my dads surf wagon. Armed with wave gliders, avocados, and a plethora of beach blankets we would spend most weekends held up at our local break. Ignoring the copious amounts of skin the sun burnt off, it also blazed an obsession with a way of life that I will never shake. Living in Northern California I have given up some aspects of that lifestyle. However I believe that summer is a state of mind, and there is no better way than to transport yourself from a cold winter day to a sunny beach like the buzz of Surf Rock. From the 50's to the present we have an army of amazing bands doing justice to a serious way of life. Let the sounds wash over you like a warm Mexican current and smile your day away.
