The Custom Club: Custom Wingtip Shoes

We all know that go-to shoe in our closet. It goes with any outfit, you can wear it to any event, and most importantly, it looks damn good. Odds are they’re a pair of classic Wingtips. They’ve become a classic staple in every man’s closet and much like fine wine, become better with age. Whether you’re riding your bike to your favorite coffee shop, going out to dinner with friends, or standing at the altar waiting for the love of your life, these shoes will do it all. Basically, the Wingtip is like the Michael Jordan of semi-formal shoes.

Wingtips weren’t always that shoe you could wear to any event, no matter the formality. Originating from Scotland, they were once the shoe of choice for field workers. The thick double sided leather made the shoe durable and reliable for the physical demands of working the land. Decorative perforations were added to allow the wearer to work in wet terrain and for water to drain from the shoe. They were later issued as a part of uniforms for soldiers during World War II, prompting widespread popularity. Once removed from the fields and trenches, Wingtips quickly transformed into the versatile shoe we all know and love. It’s been a wild ride, but a good one.

We are happy to announce that Taylor Stitch and Rancourt will be offering Custom Wingtips. Like our other Rancourts, you can build your Wingtip from the ground up, making any personal stylization you want. If you have never owned a pair, step up your game and make that your first priority. They will change your wardrobe for the better. We look forward to seeing your creativity and personal style applied to this historic shoe. Stop by our shop on 383 Valencia Street in the Mission District to build yours!
