The Black Aidan Tee

Build a better mousetrap? We would be horrible at that. But build a better tshirt, now you’re talking.

Like most women, black tshirts are a go-to staple of our wardrobes and a piece we tend to own - and wear - in droves. We have some we love, and, tellingly, even more that we don’t. Too often they fade after a few washes, turning a dark, chalky grey. Or they’re too thin and lose their shape over time. And while we like a boyfriend fit as much as the next gal, we don’t want to be swallowed up whole. For that we can steal from our actual boyfriends.

Feeling inspired to right all the black tshirt wrongs out there, we set out to create our own perfect version. We started with a cotton jersey that’s incredibly soft and incredibly black - the individual yarns are dyed as opposed to the garment itself, so the color isn't going anywhere. We did it in an 8 oz weight, thin enough to act as a light, breezy layer, but thick enough to hold it’s shape.

As for the fit, we kept the spirit of a boyfriend shirt but tailored it just a tad closer to the body. A split hem makes it perfect for front-tucking, a relaxed crew neckline shows a little extra collar bone, and a stand-out cap sleeve flatters the arm. And for all the sleeve-rollers out there, this sturdy fabric will hold a roll like no other. Music to our ears, for sure.

We’re not going to tell you how to wear it (we’re pretty sure you’ve got that figured out), but we are going to tell you that in our humble opinion, this is the one black tshirt you don’t want to live without.
