Weekly Playlist: Father Christmas
We met Matt Rubin back in early 2009. He was one of the first people that took a chance and bought a custom shirt from us, long before things were as polished as they are today. Since then he has become a very dear friend, helping us out with internet problems while we help him get dressed and perform life skills such as using power tools and bridge jumping. Due to his incredible depth of musical knowledge we asked him to put together a playlist. Here's what he came up.
This is one of the strangest playlists I’ve ever made. Not only because I threw random Christmas songs on it (because I actually love Christmas a lot and I have been listening to primarily only Christmas music since November 28th), but because it really is just a bunch of songs that are from different stories. We’ll call this playlist, “Songs I’ve loved forever, with some songs my friends made, a few new ones that sound like old 90’s music and some random Christmas jams.”
Most of the forever songs (Built To Spill, Pavement, Talking Heads) I’ve listened to and always make me nostalgic and will be perfect forever. The newer songs make me want to listen to the older songs. And songs by my friends Kevin Morby, Saintseneca (who have a record coming out next April) and Matthew E. White (which my friend Andy C. Jenkins helped write a lot of) are great new music you should be listening to. I hope everyone discovers some new bands on here. (And yes, I think I’ll put Talking Heads and New Order on any mix I make for the rest of my life.) Have an amazing holiday and New Year, and thanks for listening.
